Local Lodges unite to help students find their voice at Yarrabah School

For students with complex communication needs, having the right technology can make all the difference. It can transform how they learn, express themselves and connect with those around them.

Thanks to a collaborative fundraising effort led by Mount Scopus & Collegians' Lodge No. 689 and Sandringham District Lodge No. 220, together with generous support from fellow Lodges, individual Freemasons and matching funding from FFV, $48,300 has been raised to support students at Yarrabah School in Aspendale.

On 4 June 2026, members of Mount Scopus & Collegians' Lodge and FFV CEO Sandra Jacobs joined the Sandringham District Lodge Freemasons to present the funding to Yarrabah School Principal, Matthew Harris.

Yarrabah School is a specialist development school providing a nurturing learning environment for children and young people aged 2.8 to 18 who experience physical, sensory and cognitive barriers. The school is dedicated to maximising every student's potential through personalised learning and specialised support.

The funding will enable every teacher to access an iPad to support student communication and wellbeing check-ins, helping create a safer, more individualised learning environment. The school will also purchase adaptive protective cases, screen covers and Eyetuitive software - an AI-powered, MFi-certified eye-tracking solution compatible with newer iPad Pro models.

For students who are non-verbal or have complex communication needs, this technology will provide new opportunities to communicate independently, participate more fully in learning and engage more confidently with their teachers, peers and families.
